PRAYER
=======

Mother, give us the self-awareness to know
honestly what we are.
What we can do and what we cannot.
Give us the wisdom to cheerfully admit our
mistakes and power to learn from them,
without repeating them.
Mother, give us the humility to learn from other's,
even if they are younger to us.
Mother, give us the courage to make decisions and
sensitivity to know the reaction of others.
Mother, give us the power to recognize
the worth of each individual.
Mother, give us the patience to live realistically and more useful life through service of our brother's and sister's and all other creatures of this universe
Mother, make us your instrument to spread

Vishwa Nirmala Dharma

    Cleansing Technique: Foot-Soaking

When the day is over (also anytime), relax by soaking your feet in salt water while meditating. This technique relieves the body from stress and allows for a peaceful and relaxed night's rest.

Sit comfortably in a chair with your hands out on your lap,
facing Shri Mataji’s photograph. Light a candle in front of
Shri Mataji's photograph.Place your feet in a basin or
bucket of luke warm water containing a handful of salt.

    • Meditate for 10 to 15 minutes.
    • You can say some affirmations to cleanse the chakras.
    • Rinse and dry your feet.
    • Flush the water down the toilet. Try not to look directly in the bucket before flushing.
    • Don’t use the foot-soak bucket for any other purpose.
Foot soaking is a Sahaja Yoga technique which many people will recognize from everyday life. Quit simply it is the Sahaja Yoga version of putting the feet in a bowl of warm water as a way of relaxing at the end of the day. It is best done in the evening, and the main difference in Sahaja terms is that salt is added to the water to represent the earth element. In this way we use all the elements - fire (with the candle), air, water and earth. The element of water rinses away, and salt (earth element) sucks or absorbs away negativity. Vibrations are the key to helping these processes work.

      The Knots Prayer

      Dear Mother:
      Please untie the knots
      that are in my mind,
      my heart and my life.
      Remove the have nots,
the can nots and the do nots
that I have in my mind.

      Erase the will nots,
      may nots,
      might nots that may find
      a home in my heart.

Release me from the could nots,
      would nots and
should nots that obstruct my life.

      And most of all,
      Dear Mother,
I ask that you remove from my mind,
my heart and my life all of the 'am nots'
that I have allowed to hold me back,
      especially the thought
that I am not good enough.

      I am your son,

and that means everything to me.
      Amen

      Establishing Sahaja Yoga within us

After experiencing kundalini awakening, it is important to nurture this seed, to help it to grow and establish.

      1. Meditate at home: Shri Mataji’s Photograph, you may get from Sahajayoga’s centers near you. Frame the photograph. (avoid black colored or plastic frame). Put the photograph of Shri Mataji on a table and put a lighted candle in front of it. The photograph emits a constant stream of positive, cool vibrations (energy). Raise and “tie up” your Kundalini and put a protective “Bandhan” around yourself. Then, open your hands and place them palmupwards in your lap. Close your eyes. Try to keep your attention relaxed and focused on the top of the head (at Sahasrara). Meditate quietly for 10 to 20 minutes. During this period, allow your mind to be silent; you do not need to say any affirmations or concentrate on anything. You may find your thoughts wandering to past or projected future events. Try to witness them and let go, gradually letting the peace settle in. After meditating, raise your Kundalini again using your hands and put yourself in Bandhan.
This regular practice will help you to develop and maintain a state of inner peace which will last throughout the day as your attention becomes more and more identified with the Spirit within you. You can learn further meditation and clearing techniques for each chakra as you continue your practice of Sahaja Yoga.

      2. Attend Sahaja Yoga center: Collective meditation is a more powerful aid to growth. At your local Sahaja Yoga center, you can learn more about the techniques by which we can balance overselves, clear blockages and develop the qualities of the Chakras. Sahaja Yoga centers are always free of charge. We should visit Sahaja Yoga center once in a week.

      3. Listen to Shri Mataji's lectures: Shri Mataji has given hundreds of talks in Hindi, English and Marathi, explaning all aspects of the Subtle System and of spiritual life. Her love and wisdom, expressed in these talks, is a great help in our growth. The talks are available on Cassettes and CDs at the centers.

      4. Use Sahaja Yoga treatments: These are simple treatments utilizing the power of the elements to balance and clear our Subtle System. Foot Soaking is a very effective treatment. Try a week of meditating, using Foot Soaking in the evening, and you will see the difference.

      Experience your realization

The Kundalini rises in the presence of an awakened person and Shri Mataji's Photograph has the same effect. (You can get Shri Mataji's Photograph from the Sahaja Yoga centre near you.) Find a quiet place. Stand the Photograph on a clean surface and sit comfortably with the hands palm-upwards on the lap. Close the eyes and allow the thinking process to subside naturally. It is not necessary to do any physical or mental exercises, or make effort. On the contrary, it is better to let go and allow the natural process of Sahaja Yoga to work out.
At the start of meditation it is useful to clear first the Left and then the Right Channel. These become overactive from our daily lives and disturb us with thoughts and images.

Sit comfortably in front of Shri Mataji's picture, with the left hand palm upwards on your lap. Close the eyes and, placing the right hand on the Chakras on the left side of your body as shown, say the affirmations silently inside.

Place the right hand on the lap and sit in meditation for some time. You can open the eyes and look at Shri Mataji's Photograph without thinking.

      10. Try placing first the right and then the left hand a few inches above the top of the head, and see if you can feel a cool or warm breeze coming out. A breeze on the palms and top of the head, and a state of thoughtless peace, indicates that the Kundalini has risen.

      11. Raise both hands towards the sky with the palms facing forward, tilt the head back and ask:-
'Shri Mataji, is this the All-pervading Power of God's Love?'
A wave of bliss and an increase in the breeze can be felt.
Initially, it is helpful to go through the whole process. After some time you may find that steps 6 to 9 are sufficient.

"You just 'become', like a flower becomes the fruit. It's built-in within you. Allow it to work out." H.S.H. Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi

      The Subtle System

Inside every human being is Subtle System of three Channels and seven Chakras. The Chakras-‘Subtle Energy Centers’ control all aspects of our lives; the instinctive biological functions in the lower Chakaras; the heart and mind in the upper centers, to the higher spiritual states in the Sahasrara and above. The Atma- ‘Spirit, Consciousness’ in the left Heart, is our essence, but to know this it is necessary to stop the outward flow of thought and turn within to witness of truth.
However it is beautifully arranged, so that when the time is right, the Kundalini- ‘Pure Spiritual Energy’ dormant in the Sacrum bone, awakens and as She rises, the attention is pulled inside. Our thoughts subside automatically, and we enter a state of clarity, known as ‘thoughtless awareness’. This is the first stage of ‘Self-realization’.
Another benefit of Sahaja Yoga is that we develop ‘Vibratory Awareness’, The ability to feel the state of our subtle body inside. The condition of Chakras can felt on the hands, as color coded on the chart of the Subtle System on the above image.
A tingling or itching in one of our fingers indicates a blockage on that Chakra- on the Left Channel if on the left hand, on the Right Channel if on the right hand, and on the Central Channel if on the both hands. A breeze on the palms means that the Divine Vibrations are flowing unimpeded.

      The Three Channels (Nadis)
Ida Nadi-‘Left Channel’ – With the healthy left side, we are emotionally balanced. If we go too much into Left, we become lethargic and prone to self-pity and domination by others. Earth and Fire elements can be used to correct this.
Pingala nadi-‘Right Channel’  - A good Right Side gives us drive, creativity and an ability to get things done. If we go too much onto the Right we become dry, critical and dominating. The Water element cools and soothes the over-heating of the Right Side.
Sushumna nadi-‘Central Channel’ – When we are in the Central Channel we are in the balance and able to ascend. Regular meditation strengthens and develops the Central Channel, And we become peacefull and serene people.

      The Seven Chakras
      1. Mooladhara - This four petalled center is called the Mooladhara and is situated below the triangular sacrum bone. The center is placed outside the spine and on gross level corresponds to pelvic plexus, which looks after all our excreation, inclusive of sex activity. Though the kundalini has to rise through six centers, Mooladhara protects the purity and chastity of the Kundalini at the time of its awakening.
Mooladhara is for our innocence and one should know that innocence can never be destroyed. Too much thinking about and indulging in sex weakens this center. Despite all arbitrary abandonment of natural laws, innocence, the power of Mooladhara, remains, in sleeping or a sick state which can be cured and normalized through Kundalini awakening.
      2. Swadishthan - This six petalled centre is called the Swadishthan and is situated in the abdomen. This centre corresponds to aortic plexus, which supplies us with the energy of creativity and abstract thoughts. This centre also provides energy to the brain by converting fat cells into brain cells.
Too much thinking and futuristic planning weakens this centre and one develops very weak attention. Liver which is seat of attention is governed by this centre. This centre also controls the functioning of pancreas, uterus and some parts of intestines.
When kundalini awakens and opens this centre in a person, that person becomes very creative, dynamic and spontaneous in all his activities.
      3. Nabhi - This ten petalled centre is called Nabhi and is situated behind the navel region. This centre corresponds to Solar plexus, which gives us the power to sustain things within ourselves.
This centre governs the function of digestion and assimilation and looks after stomach, Intestines and part of liver. The biological rhythm which is regulated by spleen is also controlled by Nabhi.
This centre looks after the welfare and evolution in the mankind. When Kundalini rises and pierces this centre in a seeker, he becomes satisfied from within and becomes extremely generous.

Void - Surrounding the second and third chakra is a Void which incorporates all the aspects of existence such as personality, the effects of the planets and gravitational forces on our being, our behaviour pattern  and physical sustenance. This is an area of outside influence. It reprents that vacuum which separates our level of awareness from the truth while we are still in the unenlightened state. When the Kundalini fills this vacuum then our attention is lead out of the sea of illusion into the awareness of reality.
This is the centre of ten Primordial Masters who incarnated to lead mankind into the realm of truth and reality. When Kundalini bridges this vacuum, one becomes the Master of the Self and all innate Laws of nature are awakened in that person. Suck person becomes a very honest and able leader and has gravity in all his expressions.
      4. Anahat - This twelve petalled centre is called the Anahat and is placed behind the sternum bone in the spinal cord. This centre corresponds to cardiac plexus, which produces the antibodies till the age of twelve. These antibodies are then circulated in our system which helps us to fight any kind of attack on the body or mind. When there is either physical or emotional attack on the person, these antibodies are informed through the sternum, which has a remote control of information. This centre controls breathing by regulating the functioning of heart and the lungs.
When Kundalini rises and pierces this centre, the person becomes extremely confident, secure, morally responsible and emotionally balanced personality. Such person is very benevolent and loves humanity without any self interest involved and is dear to all.
      5. Vishuddhi - This sixteen petalled center is called the Vissuddhi and is placed in the neck region of the spinal cord. This centre corresponds to cervical plexus, which regulates the functioning of ears, nose, throat, neck, teeth, tongue, hands, gestures, etc. This centre is responsible for the comunnication with others, because with these organs we communicate with others.
On the physical level it controls the functions of Thyroid glands. Harsh speech, smoking and artificial behaviour and guilt feeling blocks this centre.
When Kundalini pierces this centre, the person becomes extremely truthful, tactful and sweet in communications and does not indulge in futile arguments. He becomes extremely diplomatic in handling situations without igniting the ego.
      6. Agnya - This two petalled centre is called the Agnya and is placed where the two optic nerves cross each other in the brain (Optic chiasma). This Centre caters to Pituitary and Pineal glands in the body which manifests the two institutions of ego and superego within us.
Since this centre governs our eyes, too much visual engagements like cinema, computers, television, over reading etc, weakens this centre. Indulging in mental callisthenics and intellectual feats leads to blocking of this centre and one develops the notion of I-ness and ego.
When Kundalini pierces this centre, the person immediately becomes thoughtless and forgiving, which is the essence of this centre, that is it allows us to forgive others.
      7. Sahasrara - This thousand petalled centre known as Sahasrara is the most important centre situated in the brain or limbic area. Actually there are thousand nerves, and if you take transverse section of the brain, you can see all these nerves beautifully arranged in a petal like structure to form lotus of thousand petals. This centre covers the limbic area of the brain, before realization, like a closed bud of lotus.
When Kundalini rises and pierces this centre, it awakens all the nerves thus enlightening every nerve centre and we say that the person is enlightened soul. Kundalini further pierces the fontanelle area and opens a gateway into the cosmos and we experience this as cool breeze on the head. This is actualization of the Union ( Self-Realization) with the all pervading Power of Divine.

      --

      Sahaja Yoga

Sahaja means ‘in-born, natural, spontaneous’ and Yoga is “Union with the Divine’. Every human is born with a subtle mechanism inside, which, when awakened, gives Sahaja Yoga-‘Spontaneous Union with the Divine’. This experience, also called Self-realization, is described in the teachings of all religions; the difference in Sahaja Yoga, is that Self-realization is the starting point of spiritual ascent, rather than the distant goal. The conditions for awakening of the dormant Spiritual Energy Kundalini to take place are only a genuine desire to know the truth and the presence of one who already has this energy awakened.
On awakening, the Kundalini emerges from the Sacrum bone, as shown on the chart. It rises through the Sushumna-‘Central Channel’ piercing the six Chakras, nourishing and enlightening these subtle energy centers. When the Kundalini passes throught the Agnaya Chakra in the head, the Seeker experiences the peace and silence of ‘Thoughtless Awareness’. This is the first stage of true meditation. Entering the state of ‘Nirvicharita’, for even a few moments everyday transforms all area of our lives; Physical. Mental, Emotional and Spiritual. We come into harmony with the world around us and feel less affected by the ups and downs of our everyday lives.
Passing through the Sahasrara Chakra-‘Thousand-Petalled Lotus’ in the limbic area, the Kundalini pierces the Fontanelle bone (Talu) at the top of head and unites us with the Param-chaitanya- ‘The all-pervading power of God’s Love’. This is felt as a cool breeze on the top of head and on the palms. Identifications with body, mind, emotions and ego fall away and we realize our true nature as Atma- ‘Spirit’. This is Atma-sakshatkar- ‘Self-realization’. It is a beautiful and liberating experience.
With the meditaion centers established in more than 120 countries, Sahaja Yoga has become a global phenomenon. Thousands of people everyday are getting the experience of Self-realization and ascending into a higher atate of awareness. They are finding the freedom and happiness that comes from spiritual fulfillment.

      Benefits of regular SahajaYoga meditaion
      • We become calm and unruffled. Stress and tension are reduced.
      • Physical health improves.
      • Sleep is sound and untroubled.
      • Family life and all relationships become more harmonious.
      • Bad habits such as smoking, drinking, roving eyes, etc. drop out automatically.
      • Deep spiritual states can be enjoyed while living the normal life of the householder.
      • Through inner awareness, we are able to guide ourselves.

“You can not know the meaning of your life until you are connected to the power that created you”. H.H. Shri mataji Nirmala Devi.

      --

      Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi

      Birth and Childhood

Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi was born on March 21, 1923 to a Christian family in Chindawara, India. Her parents were Prasad and Cornelia Salve, direct descendants of the royal Shalivahana dynasty. Seeing the beauty of this child who was born with a spotless brilliance, they called her Nirmala, which means 'Immaculate'.

Later on she came to be known by the multitudes by the name of Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi - the revered Mother who was born with her complete Self Realization and knew from a very young age that she had a unique gift which had to be made available to all mankind.
Her parents played a key role in India's Liberation Movement from under British rule. Her father, a close associate of Mahatma Gandhi, was a member of the Constituent Assembly of India and helped write free India's first constitution. He was a renowned scholar, master of 14 languages, and translated the Koran in Marathi. Her mother was the first woman in India to receive an Honors Degree in Mathematics.

      Fighting for India's Freedom

As a child, Shri Mataji lived with her parents in the ashram of Mahatma Gandhi. Gandhi saw the wisdom of this child and used to appreciate her immensely, affectionately calling her Nepali due to the Nepali features of her face. Even at a young age, her deep understanding was evident to Gandhi, who frequently sought her advice on spiritual matters.

Shri Mataji's involvement in the freedom struggle is extremely remarkable. She was very courageous and played a daring role as a youth leader of this campaign. In the 1942 "Quit India Movement" announced by Gandhi, she was even arrested and put in jail along with other freedom fighters for actively participating in this movement.
Shri Mataji was born with a complete understanding of the human nervous system and its energetic counterparts. In order to become acquainted with the scientific vocabulary attached to these subjects, she studied medicine and psychology at the Christian Medical College in Lahore.

      Sahaja Yoga is born

Shortly before India achieved independence she married Sir. C.P. Srivastava, one of India's most dedicated civil servant officers, who was knighted by the Queen of England. In India it is believed that the wife brings luck to her husband - this is most certainly the case for Sir. C.P. Srivastava.

He rose in government ranks very quickly though he was an absolutely honest person. He held the post of the Joint Secretary to the Prime Minister's office of the late Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri in the years 1964-66. Shastri himself was an ideal model for a Prime Minister in India's political history. Afterwards he was elected for 16 consecutive years to be the Secretary General of the United Nations International Maritime Organization.

As Sir C.P. Srivastava moved in fame from the Indian history to the worldly scene, Shri Mataji, after fulfilling her familial duty of bringing up her two daughters, embarked on her spiritual mission.
Although she knew about her own spiritual consciousness she did not know how to present it to the people of modern times. She was also aware of the problems encountered by the earlier spiritual personalities who came on this earth like Jesus, Mohammed, Buddha, and others when they prophesized the truth directly to the people.
As she was pondering on the many faceted problems confronting human beings, on the 5th of May, 1970, on a lonely beach of Nargol (about 150 km from Mumbai) a divine spiritual experience filled her whole being and suddenly she found an answer to her question. She discovered a historical process of en-masse Self Realisation through which thousands of people could get this connection to their Spirit and thereby their inner transformation.

Sahaja (=Spontaneous) Yoga (=Union with the Self) was born.
Spreading of Sahaja Yoga around the world

Shri Mataji made this experiment of awakening the spiritual power of every human being (which the Hindus name the Kundalini, the Muslims as the Ruh and in the bible it is described as the Holy Ghost) and was amazed at the results.

She tried it first on people near to her and noticed they were transformed physically, mentally and spiritually. Slowly she found out that only this process had the potential solution for all human problems and therefore she decided to spread it on an en-masse level. She invested her own time and money to talk to people and give them the key to their own spiritual power. Those few people who started feeling this spiritual power, which flowed like a cool breeze over their whole body, especially over the palms of their hands and on top of their head (around the fontanel bone area) were quite astonished that it worked. Though they argued and disputed over it they could not disbelieve their own experience. Under the instructions of Shri Mataji they tried giving this power to others, which really gave them the faith that this was the true spiritual experience that was being prophesized in every religion.
Amazingly, without any financial support from any person, Shri Mataji neither charges for Her lectures nor for Her ability to give Self Realisation, nor does one have to become a member of this organisation. She insists that you cannot pay for your enlightenment and to-date she continues to denounce the false, self-proclaimed "gurus" who are more interested in the seekers' purse than their spiritual ascent.
Since 1970, Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi has kept a busy schedule, travelling around the world to teach the techniques of Sahaja Yoga meditation. She has demonstrated her capacity to trigger the awakening of the spiritual power in human beings (Kundalini) at an "en masse" level.
Large numbers of people, without distinction of race, religion, age or social status have acknowledged the value of her teachings by establishing Sahaja Yoga centers in over 75 nations. These people who live a normal family life, tap to their inner spiritual power through daily Sahaja Yoga meditation and have achieved a complete balance of their lives on the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual levels. They understand the integration of all religions and spiritual paths not at a mental level, but through their direct, tangible experience on the central nervous system. Thousands of years ago, the Blossom Time was prophesized to come when, in these modern times of crisis, thousands of seekers of Truth are going to experience this connection with their Spirit.

      International achievements and recognition

Shri Mataji has spent last 38 years traveling tirelessly, giving this experience free of charge to hundreds of thousands of people worldwide. She has received recognition for this work from many countries including the United Nation Peace Prize in 1989, and has been invited to talk at international conferences on medical and social issues.
An official guest in the former Soviet Union, she enabled over 100,000 people to experience their Self-Realization. She regularly speaks to audiences of 10,000 to 20,000 in the former Eastern bloc nations and has filled year after year the Royal Albert Hall in London for her conference on Sahaja Yoga.

Shri Mataji has been recognized worldwide by several prestigious institutions for her selfless work and for the powerful results of her spiritual teachings. In 1994, the Mayor of Brazil's capital welcomed Shri Mataji at the airport, presenting her with the key to the city, and sponsored all of her programs. In 1995, the Indian Government granted Shri Mataji a one hour primetime television series, broadcast nationally. During the same year, Shri Mataji was an official guest of the Chinese government and was invitied to speak at the International Women's Conference in Beijing. Also in 1995, she was awarded by the Romanian Ecological University an Honorary Doctorate in Cognitive and Parapsychological Sciences.
She has been recognized and greeted by the mayors of several cities in North America (Yonkers, NY, 1994 & 1996, Los Angeles, 1993 and 1994, British Columbia, 1994, Cincinnati 1992, Philadelphia 1993, Berkeley, 1997). She was given a Proclamation by the US Congress in 1997 which was submitted to the Congressional Records. Shri Mataji was declared "Personality of the Year" in 1986 by the Italian Government.

NGOs created by Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi

In her tremendous compassion and concern to alleviate human sufferings, Shri Mataji has been able to create a number of NGOs (Non Governmental Organisations) to solve the most immediate problems of the world in the last 25 years. To mention a few:
      1. An international hospital in Mumbai to help patients all over the world to get a chance to cure themselves through Sahaja Yoga methods. This hospital has been producing quite successful results in curing a number of incurable diseases like cancer, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis etc.
      2. An international cancer research centre in Mumbai in order to study the effects of Sahaja Yoga methods on curing various illnesses, including psychosomatic diseases.
      3. An international music school in Nagpur to promote classical music.
      4. An NGO for the poor women in Noida, to provide shelter to destitute and homeless people. Also to help them through the process of Sahaja Yoga to become better individuals.
